NOVA SCOTIA LAUNCHES NEW PNP FOR DOCTORS
On February 22nd, 2018, the east coast province of Nova Scotia announced the launch of a new Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) stream for doctors! A part of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP), the new Physician Stream enables doctors with job offers from a Nova Scotia health organization to streamline their immigration processes
THE PHYSICIAN STREAM
Under the new Physician Stream of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) foreign doctors may be eligible to speed up their immigration processes and become Canadian permanent residents. In order to be eligible for the Physician Stream, a foreign national must have a valid job offer from either the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) or the IWK Health Centre for a position as a physician.
Both the NSHA and the IWK require potential employees to be screened for eligibility to practice as a doctor in Nova Scotia. This means that foreign nationals who do not have the credentials needed to work in Nova Scotia will not receive job offers from these health organizations. If a potential immigrant is cleared by either the NSHA or the IWK through the hiring process this means that the person will be eligible to apply for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of NS.
Eligible job offers must be under National Occupation Classification code (NOC code) 3112 or 3111.
If an applicant is eligible for this stream, they may submit an application online using the NSNP web portal. Successful applicants receive a provincial nomination, which enables them to submit permanent residency applications to the federal government. As well, successful applicants will be issued a work permit support letter, which enables them to apply for a temporary work permit while their permanent residency application is in processing.
THE NOVA SCOTIA NOMINEE PROGRAM (NSNP)
The Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) is a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) operated by the province of Nova Scotia, a small province located on Canada’s east coast. The program includes a range of PNP streams targeting skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and international graduates. As with all provincial nominee programs, NSNP allows the province to nominate foreign nationals for permanent resident status in Canada, though successful nominees still must submit an official application at the federal level.
